Reviews for the HP Envy x360 2-in-1 16-ad0097nr
The latest 16-inch Envy gets the x360 treatment to be an effective midrange solution in between the Pavilion x360 15 and Spectre x360 16. It comes in both Intel and AMD variants to satisfy users on both sides of the pond.

The HP Envy x360 16 (2024) is priced well for an upper-mid-tier device with a gorgeous display and solid performance. Creators will love this laptop's flexible form factor and impressive battery life. After using it for a few weeks, I can say that it's my favorite big-screen 2-in-1, despite its quirks. This is a laptop for work as much as it is for entertainment, and if you're looking for a 2-in-1 laptop, you have to consider the Envy x360. Compared to its rivals, HP's model offers a more complete package. Take a look at Lenovo's Yoga 7i. It's also a great machine worth consideration, but the Yoga is heavier with a duller screen.

The HP Elitebook x360 is easy to recommend for business users, particularly those who can buy the laptop in bulk, as it's fairly pricey at a starting rate of $2,029. My review unit costs $2,299. Again, this is not meant for the everyday consumer, but I recommend it to enterprising users and folks who want a durable, secure, and reliable laptop for work. For more traditional users, I'd recommend the Acer Swift 14, which fields a similar display size, battery life, and performance but at a more affordable price.

The HP Envy x360 strikes a great balance between a polished design and an attractive price. It packs a high-performance processor into its relatively slim chassis, an uncommon choice in a sea of high efficiency processors like the Ryzen 7 U-series processors. Add in the Envy x360’s beautiful OLED display and you get a 2-in-1 laptop that’s a steal for under a thousand dollars. Unfortunately, you will have to accept the Envy x360’s lackluster battery life of just over 6 hours. Among 2-in-1s, the HP Pavilion Plus 16, Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i, and Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 8 have it beat, and if you’re open to considering traditional laptops the Acer Swift X 14 and LG Gram 17 have phenomenal battery life. While the Envy x360 isn’t the perfect laptop, it’s a well-built, reliable, fast machine with an incredible user experience. You can’t find a more powerful 2-in-1 at this price without making other compromises.

Another missing item from the Envy is speedy USB connectivity. There's no Thunderbolt 4 because of the AMD processor (it's a licensing issue), but you also don't get USB4; either would give you fast 40Gbps transfer speeds. Instead, you get a pair of 10Gbps USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports. The Envy x360 16 does have two USB-A ports at least, so you don't need to carry around a USB adapter. When it's discounted to $1,000, which is with great frequency, the HP Envy x360 16 is a steal, providing a much better display than most laptops at that price. With its strong performance for general use and a long-lasting battery, this convertible is easy to recommend for home use or remote work. It's probably only two speakers away from earning an Editors' Choice award. With fuller audio output, the Envy x360 16 would be about the perfect $1,000 home entertainment convertible.

Creators will love this laptop's flexible form factor and impressive battery life. After using it for a few weeks, I can say that it's hands-down my favorite big-screen 2-in-1, despite its quirks. If you're looking for a smaller option, consider HP's 2024 Spectre x360, which has a 14-inch display. For something more adventurous, check out the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i, which has two displays.

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
