HP Chromebook x360 14-da0021nr
The HP Chromebook x360 14-da0021nr is a slim and stylish Chromebook. It is aimed for users who take great advantages of Google’s ecosystem. With a modern look and feel, plus four unique modes, this slim PC is designed for users to do everything. Despite being a lower price range device, the laptop features a unique Advanced Electrodeposition (AED) finish, which looks like a matte ceramic finish. It is a great attempt by HP to produce an affordable yet sturdy and beautiful finishing. The company claims that it is designed to show off, and the finishing certainly stands out. HP claims that Chromebook X360 14 is its thinnest convertible Chromebook at only 0.63 inch in thickness. The 360-degree hinge on the HP Chromebook x360 14 lets it function as a tablet or in other modes. Keyboard and touchpad are also interesting. The HP Chromebook x360 14 comes with a 3D stamped cloud-blue color aluminium backlit keyboard, as well as a diamond-cut touchpad. As for performance, the Chromebook is powered by an Intel Core i3-8130U with 2.2 GHz base frequency and up to 4 GHz frequency with Intel Turbo Boost Technology, integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620, 8 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM and 64 GB eMMC storage, which features fast processing and boot time. The technical specification of the Chromebook is considered medium to high for a Chromebook. However, users are not expected to storage large sized files on the Chromebook, such as movies or video editing files. Chromebook users are expected to stream media online and make full use of cloud storage instead. Users can take advantage of the two years of complimentary 100 GB of Google Cloud storage to store photos and document if they purchase this Chromebook. HP features Bang & Olufsen speakers to deliver custom tuning of the dual speakers for a rich, authentic listening experience. For an optimal viewing experience, the device features a 14-inch FHD touch display with an ultra-thin bezel (7.5 mm). The Chromebook x360 also comes with a broad array of ports for connectivity, including 2 USB Type, 1 USB Type A 3.1, a microSD port, and audio jacks (in/out). The Chromebook x360 has up to 14 hours of battery life, pretty decent to last all day using it. As a conclusion, the HP Chromebook x360 is not a basic budget Chrome browsing machine. HP has delivered a Chromebook aimed for more experienced Chromebook users who are willing to pay more for a better performing Chromebook to take full advantage of Google’s ecosystem. The Chromebook x360 14 is a difficult laptop to review. On one hand, the Chromebook does so many things right, offering an outstanding keyboard, long battery life and very fast performance. And yet, it's hard for me to recommend the Chromebook x360 14 because of its price, which borders on absurd. That price would be easier to swallow if the Chromebook x360 14's display weren't dimmer and less vivid than most budget laptops we test.

If you can’t tell, I’m a fan of the HP Chromebook x360. Other than the average speakers, this thing just does everything you want. It is fast. It is attractive. It is portable. It has a great screen. It has outstanding battery life. It is built well. It is convertible.

With the new Chromebook x360, HP appears to be further exploring the convertible Chromebook midrange landscape -- potentially fertile territory. The x360 offers considerably more than other convertibles in the $200 to $400 range and it's hundreds of dollars less expensive than Microsoft's new Surface Pro 6 or either of Apple's iPad Pros. Stay tuned: We'll make a more decisive assessment once we spend some time with a review unit.

After spending a long time with the HP Chromebook x360 as my main laptop, I have fallen in love with it. And that's mainly due to Chrome OS and its eagerness to act more like Android for smartphone than Windows for laptops. Chrome OS is easy to use as a platform on the go and it offers most of the basic functions that Windows 10 will offer. And if you are invested in the Google ecosystem, you will find it tough moving to Windows 10 or any other PC OS.

The thing about the new HP Chromebook x360 is that you can't really look at it like a typical Windows laptop. You can't call it out for not offering you a more powerful CPU or more features on paper for its price because it doesn't promise you any of that. The Chromebook is designed to offer you a fuss-free online computing experience and HP's Chromebook x360 succeeds in doing that. The best you can do is assess your own requirements from your next laptop purchase and figure out if the Chromebook x360 fits the bill.

Though this device is aimed clearly at the enterprise market, consumers like you and me can easily head over to HP’s store and buy one. And with everything good I’ve said here, I wouldn’t blame you if you did. The HP Chromebook x360 14 G1 packs a ton of great features into one package and I was genuinely happy using the device during our review period. But I was able to use this device at no cost to myself, and I have to believe that if I were to have paid the exorbitant $1250 that this Chromebook retails for on HP’s website I would have been a tad disappointed.

In terms of our Editors' Choice award honors, we narrowly prefer the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 for its solid-state drive, HDMI port, and taller 3:2 aspect ratio screen. But if you don't mind carrying a bit more ballast, the HP Chromebook x360 14c is an excellent Chrome OS convertible that offers substantial savings over several corporate and deluxe models. It's well worth considering. Plus, in the early going, we've seen the HP model inconsistently on sale from Best Buy at a $130 markdown, or $499. At that price, it's a no-brainer over the Spin 713 without a discount.

I’m not going to lie, coming off the very-excellent Acer Chromebook Spin 713, this was a tough review period. When two devices share the exact same price point, it is nearly impossible to not draw comparisons between them. For what it is worth, at MSRP, I simply don’t think the HP Chromebook x360 14c brings enough to the table to compete in the current Chromebook landscape. When nearly the same device can be had for $220 less in the Lenovo Flex 5 and a clearly-superior option is available in the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 for the exact same money, I’m just not sure where the HP slots in.

So, the moral of the story is HP iterated an already-great Chromebook and made a better one, but retailers aren’t going to be too keen on making it clear which is which. If they can sell you last year’s model for the same money, don’t doubt for a second that they will absolutely do so. For your sake, take a moment on this one and research the specs before you make a purchase. If you end up upgrading to the latest model in the process, you can thank me later.

HP has made some fine choices with the Chromebook x360 14c. The design is smart and premium-looking, while the components inside are higher-spec than those you’d usually find in this kind of device. The result is a blisteringly fast experience, with a keyboard, trackpad and touchscreen interface that make the x360 a pleasure to use. And it all comes at a very reasonable price, too. If you’re after something a tad more premium than your standard Chromebook, the X360 should be top of your list.

The HP Chromebook x360 14a is a tempting choice for a 2-in-1 laptop on the cheap, betrayed mainly by its dim display and poor touchpad. Still, it doesn't quite excel as either a tablet or a laptop. If you're looking for a more capable but still reasonably priced convertible, you might be better off with our top pick in this category, Acer's Chromebook Spin 514. Still, the HP is good enough to handle the needs of students and the demands of casual internet users on tight budgets.

All told, the HP Chromebook x360 is a well put together package on the outside that just leaves a bitter taste on the inside. For the price, it’s starting to edge into the territory of better machines. A small bump in your budget can land you a Windows 10 laptops such as the Acer Aspire 5 A515-46-R14K – with AMD Ryzen 3, 128GB SSD, a Full HD screen and a backlit keyboard. On the other hand, if a 2-in-1 convertible is a must, and you don’t mind Chrome OS, the same budget can get you the Lenovo Chromebook Flex 5, with a 10th Gen Intel Core i3 CPU, a Full HD resolution screen and weighs much less than the Chromebook x360 14a. But if all you’re buying for is basic productivity and much on battery life, sleek design and portability, then the HP Chromebook x360 14a (14a-ca0022nr) is a good Chrome OS convertible that offers substantial savings over a horde of corporate and deluxe model. It’s well worth considering.

Those who are really wed to the $659 list price might also consider Lenovo’s Flex 5 Chromebook. Its Core i3 SKU is currently listed at $564.99. This device has an equally sturdy build to the 14c and performs just as well, but it’s still much lighter and has a keyboard and touchpad that I much prefer. It’s more of a toss-up between these two, a fact which ultimately showcases how great of a deal the Spin 713 is. With all that said, I like what HP has done here. It’s made a device that looks and feels much nicer than all kinds of other devices you’ll encounter in the upper echelons of the Chromebook market. I like that the camera, microphones, and speakers — often neglected in laptops across the board — have clearly gotten significant investment. I think the 14c is only a few tweaks away from being a great laptop — but those are important tweaks, and it’s not quite there yet. I don’t think it offers a better-value package than other Chromebooks you can buy. There are just too many things that competitors do better.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

77.9%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
