Gigabyte G5 KC: Surprisingly good for its low price
For a price of approximately 1,000 Euros (~$1,188), the Gigabyte G5 KC comes with an Intel Core i5-10500H, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, 16 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB SSD, albeit without an operating system.
While the CPU was able to maintain or even surpass the performance level of an Intel Core i7-10750H in our test even in the long run, the GeForce RTX 3060 isn't configured with the maximum possible TGP. Including Dynamic Boost, it achieves 105 watts, which is still sufficient for modern games.
Only very demanding titles, such as Cyberpunk 2077, couldn't exceed the 60 fps mark at Full HD and maximum detail settings. At the same time, the 15.6-inch display, which supports refresh rates of up to 144 Hz, provided a strong image quality.
Besides numerous ports and solid input devices, the Gigabyte G5 KC also offers great maintenance options. While the battery can easily be removed and replaced from the outside without requiring any tools, there are two RAM slots, a second M.2 slot, and a free 2.5-inch slot on the inside.
However, the various expansion options are also a result of the correspondingly large case, which is much thicker than that of many competitors. The battery only provides a comparatively low runtime as well. Furthermore, the fans' noise level is very high under load.
If you're looking for a laptop that is suitable for gaming, the Gigabyte G5 KC is worth a look both for entry-level as well as for advanced requirements. The built-in hardware is very good, especially when you consider the low price.
