1st place for the GeForce RTX 3050 laptop GPU in the Gigabyte G5 GD
The Gigabyte G5 GD is an entry-level gaming laptop. The 15.6-incher is available for just under 750 Euros (~$849). The G5's case doesn't feature premium materials. The entire chassis is made of black plastic. Good: The battery isn't firmly built into the device, so it can be removed. However, battery life is poor. You can see the battery more as an emergency power supply in case of a power outage.
The combination of the Core i5-11400H CPU, the GeForce RTX 3050 laptop GPU of RAM (dual-channel mode) brings all modern games smoothly onto the screen. The full display resolution (1920x1080 pixels) and high to maximum quality settings can usually be selected. Good: Thanks to a maximum TGP of 85 watts, the RTX 3050 GPU delivers both the best 3DMark results as well as the best frame rates in games that we have observed so far with this graphics core.
The matte display (Full HD, IPS, 144 Hz) offers stable viewing angles, good contrast, and decent color reproduction. But there is room for improvement in terms of brightness, color-space coverage, and response times.
The relatively low price level of 750 Euros ($849) is largely owed to the fact that no Windows operating system is included with the laptop. Those in possession of a valid Windows license should install Windows 10. Windows 11 is only compatible with newer BIOS versions, which unfortunately lead to gaming issues. Linux would be the obvious first alternative, but installing and setting up the system would probably be too much of a hassle for many users.
