As with most of my gaming laptop reviews, I tried to swap the Gigabyte G5 into my daily life and place myself into the vibe of a potential user. I used it for both work and play and really got to know the product. I did regular tasks like writing emails, basic web surfing, and some long-form writing. In the evening I played the Sims 4 on it and a little bit of Cyberpunk 2077 too. Most of the general-use testing I did was with the laptop running on battery power, leaving it to charge to full power before using it till it died to get a better sense of what it would be like relying on the battery when carrying it around. Naturally, our benchmarking tests were conducted with the laptop plugged in for maximum performance.

The Gigabyte G5 is a bit of an oddball – a gaming laptop with a now fairly ancient 10th-Generation Intel CPU that, somehow, I feel able to recommend to plenty of folks. Why? Three key factors are big hits: gaming performance, display quality and pricing. Having a slightly older CPU doesn’t matter that much when, at least for gaming, the GPU is going to provide the performance ceiling. The screen is far more punchy than you might expect, offering excellent colour for a laptop of this grade and above-average brightness. Sure, the speakers are rubbish, battery life is poor and the design may be a bit bland for RGB nuts. But the only big problem here is that this juncture you can often find older, categorically superior gaming laptops on sale at just as compelling prices. It’s a function of the Nvidia RTX 3060 having been around for quite a while at this point.

This laptop nearly checks off every box for what you can possibly look for in a 15-inch gaming laptop. And for the price, it is pretty solid. The CPU and RTX 3060 (with 6GB VRAM) are certainly better than most laptops at this price with the 4GB VRAM RTX 3050. It also packs 16GB of RAM out of the box rather than 8GB, and 512GB SSD rather than 256GB storage. The smooth 144Hz IPS display, RGB backlit keyboard, and plenty of connectors onboard are additional features that many gamers will appreciate. Given the RTX 3060 GPU and the current shipment difficulties of hardware, GIGABYTE G5 KC-5US1130SH is an incredible value for its price. The GIGABYTE G5 KC-5US1130SH has what you need in a 15.6" gaming laptop if you want to have the RTX 3060 and 16GB RAM. We also appreciate its additional features like the 144Hz screen and RGB backlit keyboard.

Yes, we are very impressed. Although it is not the best out there, Gigabyte packs this laptop with all those features that many gamers will appreciate. The 105W variant of RTX 3060 GPU sets this apart from its competitors in this price range. Especially today where the graphics chips are very hard to get, it’s great to get a laptop with this 105W GPU, so yes, we highly recommend this Gigabyte G5 KD-52US123SO.

With the Gigabyte G5 GD, smooth modern gaming is finally achievable in a machine that doesn’t cost so much. The 15.6-inch 144Hz refresh rate screen shows its good side with rich colors, while the Intel Core i5-11400H processor makes for stable performance over prolonged periods. The built-in Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 is a good run for butter-smooth frame rates in modern AAA titles. Elsewhere, the Gigabyte G5 GD-51US123SO remains a perfect choice for anyone looking to upgrade the system later, thanks to a second M.2 slot and a free slot for a 2.5-inch drive. Once again, you can replace the battery without the need for tools, although it simply provides moderate runtimes. The newest Acer Predator Helios 300 remains our Editors’ Choice for midrange gaming laptops, thanks to a solid feature set, including an 11th Gen., Intel Core i7-11800H processor, an RTX 3060 GPU, and an RGB keyboard. That said, if you need something upgradable down the road, then the Gigabyte G5 GD-51US123SO is an excellent choice.

I think it is tough for us to say that this laptop is not good stuff, because it actually is. For sure, it is not the most powerful gaming laptop available right now, but in terms of value and performance combination, it punches anything else in its category. From the 11th Generation Intel “High-Performance” chip, Ray-Tracing supported GPU, a 144Hz IPS display, and all of those generous other features like the backlit keyboard, tons of ports, and upgrade option, Gigabyte certainly has a winner here. These days as we have low chipset supply everywhere, this 15.6″ Gigabyte G5 GD-51US123SO is very hard to beat.

The dream is still to see a sub Php30,000 gaming laptop capable of playing games at 1080p at a solid frame rate but today, with the GIGABYTE G5 GD showing us that Php50,000 is enough to bring decent gaming performance. GIGABYTE does cut back on things like the case construction and panel but this isn’t saying they’re getting low-quality options. Everything feels just right and most of the shortcomings would be nitpick rather than valid criticism especially given the price. Evidently, it is in gaming where this laptop truly shines. As we test in the maximum detail settings of most games, its nice to see a laptop not buckle and give us very poor framerate. Of course, there are exceptions like Cyberpunk 2077 which at Ultra is a very resource-intensive game.

The G5 KE honestly has just about everything you might be looking for in a budget gaming laptop. We actually have no qualms about recommending this laptop as a solid entry point gaming laptop if you’re looking for a 3060 option. Of course, there is also the G5 ME, a 3050Ti option if you’re looking for an even cheaper alternative, however you’ll also miss out on the Thunderbolt 4 port among other things.

Gigabyte's foray into the Indian market kicks off with the midrange G5 series. The G5 KE is based on a Clevo design and shares similar specs as the larger G7 KE including an Intel Core i5-12500H CPU, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU, and a 144 Hz display. While the Gigabyte G5 KE gets most of the gaming basics right, buyers will have to contend with compromises in other areas.

The Gigabyte G5 GE is a well-balanced machine that offers a perfect blend of performance, portability, and productivity. There are a few areas that could be improved. We sorely missed the absence of an HDR option for the screen, and we wished it had a better camera, along with some slightly better-tuned speakers. The overall performance and user experience, makes up for these shortcomings. For avid gamers who do not stream and just want to enjoy some of the most popular games at high frame rates without spending too much, the Gigabyte G5 GE, in the configuration we tested, is more than sufficient. Not once during our gaming sessions or testing sessions did we wish, if only this machine had more to offer in terms of performance.

If you’re from coming last year’s model then there’s really nothing here for you. It is those that are looking to get their first gaming laptop but are dead set on keeping iat around that Php50k price range. Besides the CPU performance improvement as well as battery life, the chassis gains a decent and much needed redesign that can be appreciated more by those looking for a smaller design. Its not the smallest laptop but GIGABYTE really packed this one well. Ultimately, the GIGABYTE G5 GE continues the trend of value offering from this line but still maitaining the GIGABYTE touch with decent performance and quality. Its not alone in this space as its biggest rival is fellow Taiwanese giant Acer whose Nitro line-up sits directly side-by-side with the GIGABYTE G5 GE. Nothing really separates the two but in most occassions, GIGABYTE will have store promotions to give their users a free RAM or SSD upgrade, easily bumping performance and value versus Acer.

Gigabyte: GIGABYTE Technology is a Taiwan-based manufacturer of computer hardware products best known for its motherboards. Established in 1986, its major customers include custom boutique PC manufacturers such as Alienware. Secondary lines in the company's product portfolio include complete PCs, laptops, optical drives, LCD monitors, keyboards, mice, cooling components, mobile phones and high end mobile phone products (PDA phone, TV phone etc.), networking equipment, power supplies, and a line of barebone mid and full sized ATX computer cases. Gigabyte laptop reviews are rare and the global laptop market share low.
