Garmin has started a new year by issuing a fresh stable update to its older Forerunner smartwatches, including the Forerunner 165 (curr. $210 on Amazon). To recap, the company rounded off last year by issuing Beta Version 27.08 to the same smartwatches with the promise of an improved scroll experience.
Now, recent beta development has graduated to Garmin's stable software branch with the release of Software Version 27.09. Although the new update does not bring any fresh features to the table, it does introduce numerous fixes for bugs that were present on older beta and stable builds. For instance, Software Version 27.09 contain the improvements that Garmin beta tested with Beta Version 27.08.
In other words, Forerunner 165, Forerunner 255, Forerunner 265, Forerunner 955 and Forerunner 965 should experience a smoother scrolling experience after updating to Software Version 27.09. Please note that this is limited to Garmin's Activity Summary menu. Moreover, the new update resolves a possible crash that could occur during swimming activities and a separate issue that caused race time prediction to be missing from a Garmin Coach Plan. On top of that, all but the Forerunner 255 have received a separate fix that resulted in touchscreen actions not working for incoming calls.
Also, Garmin claims to have included various other bug fixes and stability improvements. Unfortunately, it has decided against revealing the extent of these other changes. Software Version 27.09 should reach all eligible smartwatches within the next few days as part of a phased rollout. In the meantime, one can request the new update manually by tapping 'Check for Updates' after navigating through Menu, System and then Software Update.
