OpenAI is launching an affordable ChatGPT Go tier that offers expanded access to its newest GPT-5.2 model, and ten times the message or file upload count of the free tier.
ChatGPT Go is priced at $8/month, but will be ad-supported just like the free option, as OpenAI will begin showing ads in both free and ChatGPT Go tiers, at least for users in the US.
"Ads support our commitment to making AI accessible to everyone by helping us keep ChatGPT available at free and affordable price points," explains OpenAi.
The more expensive ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise tiers will be the ones that users need to subscribe to if they don't want to see advertising. OpenAI claims that it has carefully separated the ad module from the chatbot messaging experience and ChatGPT answers won't be affected by the advertising content.
To achieve this, OpenAI will keep chats away from the prying eyes of advertisers and won't sell them personal data. The free ChatGPT user, or those on the new $8/month Go plan will also be able to turn ad personalization off and clear all the accumulated data at will.
ChatGPT's ads will be placed at the bottom with clear markings and will display only products or services relevant to the conversation at hand. OpenAI goes out of its way to assure users that the answers themselves won't be affected by the ads shown and ChatGPT will steer away from bias just as before. The ad-supported ChatGPT experience will launch in the US in the next weeks, so there will be a chance to put OpenAI's integrity claims to the test.
