OpenAI has announced GPT-5.2, its latest AI model in Instant, Thinking, and Pro variants, which are immediately available to paid subscribers of ChatGPT. The company has also announced a $1 billion equity investment by Disney.
The AI arrives with significantly improved visual, programming, math, and long-range thinking capabilities, making it more capable at handling complex business tasks, app programming, and call center workflows, according to OpenAI tests. In terms of accuracy, hallucinations involving made-up information have been reduced, even while handling very large input documents.
The rate of undesirable answers in the categories of self-harm, mental health, extremism, personal data misuse, and sexual abuse has also been reduced. ChatGPT now uses predictive age detection to automatically direct users under 18 years to a more appropriate version, which blocks graphic sexual content and contacts the police in cases where the user's safety is in question.
The Disney investment provides benefits to both companies. Disney can access OpenAI services along with warrants to buy additional OpenAI stock at its current valuation. OpenAI can use over 200 licensed Disney characters in its Sora image and video AI for three years, allowing users to incorporate their favorite characters into generated works starting in early 2026, with limits on what the characters are allowed to do to prevent the generation of harmful content. Additional monetary details of this collaboration have not been revealed.
