Garmin has delivered a new update for many of its popular mid-range smartwatches. Rolling out globally, the new update aims to improve connectivity across the Forerunner series in a specific area.

Earlier this month, Garmin released a new beta update for older Forerunner smartwatches as far back as the Forerunner 255 and Forerunner 955 (curr. $469 on Amazon). Distributed as Public Beta Version 29.04, the update promised to improve all smartwatches in multiple areas.

However, Garmin remained coy about some of the changes it included from Software Version 28.05, the most recent stable update for the Forerunner 165, Forerunner 255, Forerunner 265, Forerunner 955 and Forerunner 965. Now, the company has replaced Public Beta Version 29.04 with a direct successor, which it released to public beta testers, too.

In a series of forum posts, Garmin claims that Public Beta Version 29.05 has already reached 100% of eligible smartwatches. If that has not happened in your case, you can request the new beta manually by navigating through the main menu on your Forerunner smartwatch to Settings, System and Software Update before selecting 'Check for Updates'. Please see Garmin's dedicated support page for enrolling in its Beta Software Program.

Reportedly, Public Beta Version 29.05 contains a single change from v29.04. Specifically, the new update resolves an issue that could affect device connections during Virtual Run activities. If past beta cycles and this limited changelog are anything to go by, then Garmin may soon transition v29.xx development to its stable software channel with a new stable update. The company has not indicated when that will occur yet, though.
