The Dexcom Connect IQ app for Garmin devices is rolling out to provide “expanded region availability”. The app allows you to track your blood sugar levels on a Garmin smartwatch or bike computer alongside other training insights. However, you must purchase a Dexcom CGM system and have your smartphone nearby to view the transmitted data.

Garmin has announced the “expanded region availability” of the Dexcom Connect IQ app. The system allows people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes to monitor their blood sugar levels via a Dexcom continuous glucose monitoring system on their smartwatch or bike computer. The app lets you view metrics, including blood sugar measurements, broader trends and a three-hour history.

The new Dexcom software could be beneficial while exercising, with the option to view your glucose level measurement alongside other training metrics available with your Garmin device. Plus, you do not need to retrieve your smartphone to see the information. The app was already on offer to some customers in the US. You can download Dexcom Connect IQ to various Garmin smartwatches and bike computers, including the Fenix 7, Epix and Forerunner 945 (complete list here) from the Connect IQ store.

It is worth noting that there are several significant caveats here. Firstly, you must use a Dexcom CGM system device, sold separately; the compatible models are the Dexcom G6 and Dexcom G7. Plus, both your Garmin device and Dexcom gadget must be within the Bluetooth range of your compatible smartphone with a data connection. Garmin has not provided a list of the regions where the app is rolling out. It appears available or about to arrive in countries including the US, Canada, the UK, France and Germany.
