Team Cherry has kept fans guessing since the Hollow Knight: Silksong announcement in 2019. While the developer finally revealed a September 4th release date at Gamescom, it didn’t share pre-order details. However, GameStop has now listed the digital Switch version for $19.99. Assuming it’s not an error, the latest Silksong news will delight fans of the anticipated Metroidvania title.
When Hollow Knight debuted in 2017, it carried a reasonable $14.99 price. Team Cherry had already conducted a successful Kickstarter campaign, surpassing its donation goals. As a result, a Silksong price of $5 more may not seem as shocking. Still, the sequel has a much larger scope with added bosses, more environments to explore, and crafting mechanics. Despite an extended development cycle, it appears the indie studio was able to keep its expenses reasonable.
It goes without saying that at $19.99, Silksong should have no problems competing with the sales of AAA rivals. Before knowing more pre-order details, over 5 million Steam users wishlisted the title. Its predecessor, Hollow Knight, has also seen a resurgence in popularity. It recently eclipsed the 15 million copy threshold, while notching record player counts on Valve’s marketplace.
It’s possible that even if the Switch pre-order listing is an error, the retailer could honor the price. As far as other platforms, no information is currently available. A Switch 2 version is expected on the September 4th Silksong release date, as well as options for PC, Xbox, and PS5 gamers. After being used to promote the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds at Gamescom, it will also be a day-one Xbox Pass title.
Fans of physical media will likely have to wait until 2026 for non-digital copies of Silksong. That said, a cartridge version for the Switch 2 already surfaced at a Polish retailer several months ago.
