GKD is close to launching the Mini Plus Classic outside China, having revealed the gaming handheld in September. The GKD Mini Plus Classic features a 3.5-inch display, a Rockchip RK3566 chipset and 1 GB of RAM, plus a 3,000 mAh battery.

Game Kiddy (GKD) finally appears ready to offer the Mini Plus Classic, two months on from teasing the device alongside the regular Mini Plus. To recap, the Mini Plus and Mini Plus Classic are similar gaming handhelds. However, the latter does not have a detachable element like the Mini Plus. Instead, its two joysticks are fixed, giving the Mini Plus Classic a larger footprint than the Mini Plus when removed from its case.

Theoretically, the GKD Mini Plus Classic is capable of emulating over 2,500 games using its Rockchip RK3566 chipset and 1 GB of RAM. How well these games run on the device’s 3.5-inch and 640 x 480-pixel display remain to be seen, though. Performance notwithstanding, the Mini Plus Classic also has integrated Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, with the former allowing you to connect wireless controllers.

Moreover, the inclusion of Wi-Fi connectivity unlocks multiplayer options, with two Mini Plus Classic consoles capable of communicating over a local network. According to GKD, the Mini Plus Classic will soon be available on Kickstarter for US$139, after which its price will rise to US$279. The company has not confirmed when the device will reach the crowdfunding platform, although you can currently reserve a unit for US$1 on the Game Kiddy website.
