Deal | Get the MSI Mech Radeon RX 6600 8GB for only US$190

Since AMD is only launching the high-end Radeon 7000 GPUs in a few weeks and the mid-range solutions could take some more months to hit the market, maybe giving the current gen a chance is not such a bad idea, especially now with all the Black Friday deals popping around. Team Red has been focusing on the price/performance factor lately, and right now, the best value in this regard seems to be offered with the Radeon RX 6600 cards. This model is ~US$250 at retailers like Amazon, but Newegg has a Black Friday deal for the MSI Mech Radeon RX 6600 8GB graphics card that is discounted down to US$189.99 after a US$20 rebate.

As pointed out by Tom’s Hardware, the RX 6600 is just a bit slower than the Nvidia RTX 3060, yet it is more than US$100 less expensive. The AMD card is clearly superior to the Nvidia GTX 1660 Super model that has a similar price, and it also beats the RTX 3050 that is going for ~US$279.

Looking at aggregated performance charts from the top online review sites and Youtube channels, the RX 6600 appears to offer the best bang for the buck when it comes to 1080p games running at high or ultra settings and it can prove a decent 1440p solution if settings are turned down to medium. Tom’s Hardware estimates that the RX 6600 cards average 73 fps and thus provide the best fps per dollar ratio at 0.383. For reference, the ARC A750 from Intel gets a 0.277 ratio and the RTX 3060 from Nvidia is further down at 0.238.

There are downsides, too, of course, as the Radeon RX 6000 series certainly does not excel at ray tracing plus it lacks some video encoding/decoding capabilities. One could maybe overlook these shortcomings seeing that AMD is bundling the RDNA2 cards with the Dead Island 2 and Callisto Protocol free games.
