First next-generation Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip details emerge
The Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 may only be a few months old, but rumours about next-generation models have already appeared. Tentatively called the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4, the pair are not expected to arrive any time soon. Instead, Samsung's next foldable smartphones are thought to launch in August 2022, matching the launch window of the Galaxy Z Fold3, Galaxy Z Fold2 and the Galaxy Z Flip3.
Reputedly, Samsung will equip the next Galaxy Z Fold with better cameras, no surprise considering that the Galaxy Z Fold3 shares its cameras with its predecessor. Apparently, the Galaxy Z Fold4's cameras will be similar to those found in the Galaxy S22 series, although it is unclear if these will be from the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus or the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Additionally, Samsung is believed to have improved the quality of its under-panel camera (UPC), which debuted in the Galaxy Z Fold3. Incidentally, all Galaxy Z Fold4 prototypes are said to include a built-in S Pen, a feature that it is also coming to the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Even the next Galaxy Z Flip may gain S Pen support. However, Samsung is reported to have tested this with the Galaxy Z Flip3 before pulling it, so there are no guarantees that this will make its way to the Galaxy Z Flip4. A lighter hinge and better resistance against foreign materials are tipped to be arriving though, admittedly minor improvements compared to the prospect of a built-in S Pen in the Galaxy Z Fold4.
Nonetheless, Samsung is rumoured to be testing UPCs and punch-hole cameras in Galaxy Z Flip4 prototypes. We would expect Samsung to release both smartphones with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 SoCs, too.
