A prominent YouTuber has showcased an innovative new eGPU in a new video. Combining OCuLink and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity to rival the Asus ROG XG Mobile 2025, the eGPU is also the first example to leverage Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5060 desktop graphics card.

YouTuber ETA Prime has provided an early look at a forthcoming Asus ROG XG Mobile 2025 competitor. As it stands, Asus' latest GPU is the only Nvidia-powered eGPU on the market. By contrast, most eGPU manufacturers opt for the AMD Radeon RX 7600M or Radeon RX 7600M XT despite the more powerful RX 7800M being available in the OneXGPU 2 (curr. $849.99 - refurbished on Amazon).

Ultimately, all these eGPU solutions utilise laptop-grade graphics cards. According to ETA Prime, the prototype showcased in the video below relies upon a desktop-grade graphics card instead, which can currently only be achieved by pairing solutions like the Minisforum DEG1 with a full desktop graphics card.

In this case, the unnamed prototype features the GeForce RTX 5060 that provides a GB206 GPU, 3,840 CUDA cores and 8 GB of GDDR7 VRAM with 448 GB/s memory bandwidth. Apparently, the eGPU solution has 150 W Total Graphics Power (TGP) at its disposal too, despite its comparatively small form factor.

Better still, the eGPU contains OCuLink and Thunderbolt 5 ports, which should expand its versatility compared with many other eGPU solutions. We say 'should' because ETA Prime stresses that the prototype he has received only supports up to Thunderbolt 4 speeds. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen when this GeForce RTX 5060 eGPU will be available, let alone for how much.
