Fan recreates iconic PSP-1000 as a detailed LEGO set that could become official

A fan of Sony’s ambitious and most powerful handheld of its time, the Sony PSP, which was the first serious challenger of its era to take on Nintendo, selling 85 million units in its lifetime, is now attempting to keep the system’s legacy alive. He’s pitched a 333-piece Lego set for the original Sony PSP-1000.
The PSP still lives on through the homebrew and modding community with new projects and ports. Keeping the retro handheld’s legacy alive, a PSP fan known as yakyah recently submitted a 333-piece Sony LEGO PSP concept on the LEGO Ideas website, paying homage to the original “fat” PSP-1000.
The LEGO PSP nails the handheld’s chunky yet sleek look, from its curved body, D-pad, silver shoulder buttons, action buttons, the single recessed thumbstick, and 16:9 screen. The LEGO creator achieved this by using slope pieces and SNOT bricks to mimic the sleek and smooth curves of the PSP without any “illegal” building tricks.
The surprising part is that the LEGO PSP concept even features the power slider on the side, along with the yellow charging port. Upping the ante, the LEGO PSP also includes a retractable UMD disc tray featuring a demo disc inside.
A childhood trip-inspired idea
So how did Yakyah stumble upon the idea for a LEGO PSP? He recounted in the LEGO Ideas description section, writing, “During a trip back to my childhood home, I found my PSP sitting in a box during some spring cleaning. With it came a flood of happy memories. This drove me to start work on a recreation of the device as a decorative interactive model to hopefully give fellow fans of this device a similar feeling to what I felt.”
He detailed his creative LEGO building process, explaining, “This build was made using Bricklink Studio, a digital LEGO building platform, without the use of ‘illegal’ building techniques. There are no collisions between bricks, and the internal structure is fully complete.”
The LEGO PSP-1000 project went live on LEGO Ideas on April 1, 2026, and has already garnered support from over 700 people, with nearly 424 days left to reach the first milestone of 1,000 votes. However, for LEGO to seriously consider partnering with Sony to realize the LEGO PSP-1000 as a real LEGO set, yakyah will need 10,000 supporters before the deadline.
