It looks like Anbernic's PlayStation Portable Go (PSP Go) facsimile will be arriving this month after all. To recap, the company kicked off the weekend by promoting its latest gaming handheld in a gameplay showcase video. Now, it has shared full specifications with RetroHandhelds, a copy of which we have included below.
Surprisingly, the company appears to have used the guts of the RG556 (curr. $229 on Amazon) rather than the newer RG557. For instance, the RG Slide features the Unisoc T820 found across last year's RG556 and RG Cube, not the newer MediaTek Dimensity 8300 from the RG557. According to our benchmarks, a massive performance gap exists between the two chipsets in the latter's favour. The same is true of the pair's GPUs as well to an even greater extent.
On top of that, the RG Slide leverages slower storage than the RG557, UFS 2.2 instead of UFS 4.0. Likewise, the former has a third less LPDDR4X RAM than the latter at 8 GB vs 12 GB. Worse still, Anbernic has included a 9% smaller battery capacity than the RG556 too, which drops from 5,500 mAh to 5,000 mAh. Unfortunately, the RG Slide will take roughly 3 hours to fully charge thanks to 5V/2A charging capabilities.
As the image below highlights, the RG Slide also runs Android 13 compared to Android 14 in the case of the RG557. In short, the RG Slide appears to be a performance regression compared to the RG557 at the benefit of smaller dimensions. To that end, the RG Slide measures just 154 x 90 x 26 mm but weighs 379 g. Seemingly, the RG Slide will arrive later this month between RG35XX Pro and RG477M releases. Anbernic is still yet to reveal when the RG Slide will be available though, let alone how much it will initially cost.
