Dire AMD Radeon RX 6800XT and RX 6800 supply situation epitomized by leaked retailer delivery details: 22 cards incoming for 4,695 orders
TechEpiphany has provided a delivery situation sheet that supposedly comes from the large online retailer Proshop. The form specifically deals with the new Radeon RX 6800 XT and Radeon RX 6800 graphics cards from AMD, and if you thought getting hold of a new GeForce 30 Series card from Nvidia was hard enough, Navi 21 is practically impossible. For the Radeon RX 6800, there are apparently 67 customer orders and 2,213 wholesale orders (although adding up the numbers actually comes to 2,413), with just a paltry 13 units incoming.
Things look even worse for those who want an AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT though…the customer orders figure is 506 and the wholesale orders tally up to 1,909. But the delivery form states that there are just nine cards incoming to satisfy 2,415 orders! Presuming there is a typo in the wholesale orders for the RX 6800 and the total is 2,213 requests, then adding up all the orders for the new Navi 21 cards comes to a figure of 4,695. With just 22 cards coming to satisfy that demand that means less than 0.5% of orders will be completed. Want an AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series card? You have a 1 in 213 chance of getting lucky.
Even if the form is a forgery of some sort or full of typos (the missing 200 orders in the wholesale order total for the RX 6800; entries with ordinal numbers instead of cardinal ones), it’s already been reported that there are severe shortages of these much-wanted AMD parts. Interestingly, another thing worth pointing out is the frequently repeated comment “AMD did not deliver to the dealer” in regard to the reference design units of the Radeon RX 6800 XT and RX 6800. This situation could end up being a sorely missed opportunity for AMD in its ongoing rivalry with Nvidia.
