AMD now holds the 3DMark Fire Strike world record, and with its second-fastest graphics card to boot. Impressively, the Radeon RX 6800 XT took the crown from the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 with a reference cooler.

We may still have the RX 6900 XT to come from AMD, but the RX 6800 XT has enough performance to claim the world record in 3DMark Fire Strike from NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3090. Naturally, the RDNA2 card did not manage its world-beating score of 47,932 points at stock settings, but that is never the case with extreme overclockers.

According to Lucky_Noob, he overclocked the RX 6800 XT to 2,650 MHz in Performance Tuning. Power limitations meant that the card could not maintain that clock speed during its run, though. It is worth noting that the previous record was held by an LN2 cooled RTX 3090. However, Lucky_Noob only used LN2 to maintain a stable overclock of 5.4 GHz on his Ryzen 9 5950X, and used the stock reference cooler on the RX 6800 XT.

Presumably, custom RX 6800 XT cards will achieve higher scores than this reference card, too. Similarly, we would expect the RX 6900 XT to outperform the RX 6800 XT, so it may ascend the 3DMark Fire Strike throne eventually. The RX 6900 XT will arrive on December 2, albeit in limited quantities.
