In contrast to the affordable Vostro series, the Latitude series is home to Dell's higher-end business laptops in terms of design and features. The series itself is further divided into the budget Latitude 3000 series, mid-range Latitude 5000 series, high-end Latitude 7000 series, and the ultra-thin Latitude 9000 series. The latest sale involves the Latitude 7390 for just under $600 down from its original insane launch price of over $2000 USD.
The Core configuration includes a Kaby Lake-R Core i7-8650U CPU, 8 GB of single-channel DDR4 RAM, 1080p display, and a 256 GB M.2 SATA SSD with support for WWAN. The price can be knocked down even further by opting for a 128 GB SSD instead.
The main catch here is that the Core i7-8650U is two generations behind the current 10th gen Comet Lake-U and Ice Lake processors as found on the latest XPS 13 models. Thus, it's likely that Dell is simply clearing stock to make room for the newer Latitude 7300 and beyond.
Nonetheless, the deal is still worthwhile for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the performance delta between 8th gen and 10th gen Intel Core U series CPUs are narrower than one would expect. Secondly, it's easy to upgrade both the single-slot RAM and SSD on the Latitude 7390. It continues to be one of the better business subnotebooks especially at this new temporary price.
