Newegg is clearing stock of its latest AMD Ryzen laptops even though they are barely a year old. For a mid-range 15.6-inch laptop, the discounted Asus VivoBook 15 strikes a pretty good balance between performance, price, and size.
A few weeks ago, we mentioned that now would be a good time to buy a 2nd generation Ryzen U-series laptop since the 3rd generation models will be coming in the next month or so. Now, you can add one more laptop to that list. Newegg is currently running a week-long sale on the 15.6-inch Asus VivoBook 15 F512 equipped with the Ryzen 7 3700U APU for just $550 USD.
The deal is notable because this is the latest VivoBook chassis design equipped with a processor that rivals the Intel Core i7-8565U. In other words, you’re paying a budget price for nearly the same thinness and performance as most high-end U-series Ultrabooks like the XPS 13, Yoga C940, or HP Spectre 13. You won’t be getting a luxurious metal chassis, however, as that is reserved for Asus’ pricier ZenBook series instead. Even so, the VivoBook 15 is certainly one of the better bargains for a mid-range 15.6-inch Ultrabook.
Though we’ve yet to review this exact configuration and size, our experience with the smaller 14-inch version shows the usual pros and cons associated with mid-range laptops including the plastic chassis and relatively dim display. We fully expect more mobile Ryzen deals to pop up in the weeks leading up to the eventual 3rd generation 4500U/4700U refresh.
