With AMD Ryzen 7 4700U/4800U right around the corner, now is the best time to buy a Ryzen 7 3700U laptop
AMD was met with excitement from fans and journalists at CES 2020 who praised the red chipmaker for the promising Zen 2 lineup of Ryzen 4000U processors. The first laptops to come equipped with the new processors are scheduled for March meaning that most retailers will be discounting older Zen and Zen+ laptops all throughout the month of February.
One example sale is the 14-inch Asus ZenBook 14 equipped with the last generation Ryzen 7 3700U now retailing for just $660 USD. The ZenBook series is home to Asus' flagship consumer Ultrabooks in contrast to the budget-oriented VivoBook series. From a performance-per-dollar standpoint, this is one of the better deals without settling for a lower-end Vivobook, HP Pavilion, or Dell Inspiron.
Other than the aforementioned ZenBook, however, there aren't many Ryzen 7 3700U options to choose from. Lesser AMD laptops like the Walmart Motile are also on sale with the slower Ryzen 3 and Ryzen 5 variants. AMD has been having a tough time convincing major OEMs to use mobile Ryzen parts for high-end Ultrabook models like the Dell XPS, HP Spectre, or Lenovo Yoga 900 series. The chipmaker still has a long way to go to get mobile Ryzen onto more systems, but the few that are available should be a steal in the coming weeks.
