(February 3, 2020 update: Deal is now dead. The price of the base configuration has been increased to $749.)
When compared to the consumer-centric IdeaPad or Yoga series, ThinkPad laptops tend to offer easier serviceability and tougher build quality to cater to professional environments. The ThinkPad T models are perhaps Lenovo's most well-known.
The popular ThinkPad T480s is now on sale for a starting price of $674. The deal is notable because even the lowest-end configuration comes with a respectable Core i5-8250U CPU and a 256 GB SSD. We suspect that Lenovo wants to clear stock of its two-generation old Core i5-8250U SKUs in order to make room for newer Comet Lake-U SKUs. As we've already pointed out before, however, the performance advantages between Intel 8th gen and 10th gen have been marginal thus far to the point where most users won't even know the difference when running common everyday tasks like video streaming, web browsing, or word processing. For these scenarios, even the two-year old Core i5-8250U will be sufficient.
The main drawback to the deal is the 8 GB of soldered RAM. Fortunately, there is an easily accessible empty SODIMM slot in contrast to many consumer Ultrabooks where end-user servicing can be difficult. The M.2 2280 SSD can also be upgraded to higher capacities quite easily.
