ASUS ROG Strix XG17AHPE is a laptop monitor without the laptop launching today for $500
The latest gaming laptops tend to offer fast refresh rate displays capable of native 120 Hz, 144 Hz, or even 240 Hz refresh rates. The 17.3-inch Asus Strix Scar III, for example, comes with an optional 240 Hz display for smoother gameplay and response times. If you ever only wanted the display and not the laptop, however, then Asus has already got you covered.
The ASUS ROG Strix XG17AHPE is a narrow bezel portable monitor with a native 240 Hz refresh rate much like on the aforementioned Strix Scar III laptop. While portable gaming monitors are not uncommon, this Asus model is notable for being 17.3-inches whereas most others are 15.6-inch only. The monitor will also come with a protective case and internal 7800 mAh battery to to further accentuate its portability. If you're ever on a long flight or just wish you had a handy second monitor, then the ASUS ROG Strix XG17AHPE could be a worthwhile investment.
Based on our experience with portable monitors, most are very fragile as they are designed to be lightweight with no glass or metal reinforcement that laptops typically enjoy. Thus, it will be important to keep the monitor stowed away in its protective case when traveling or not in use.
MSI also teased its own Optix MAG161 portable gaming monitor at CES 2020 albeit it is 15.6-inches only.
