IFA 2018 | Dell Inspiron 14 5000 and Inspiron Chromebook 14 coming this October for $600 USD
Much like the upcoming 2018 Inspiron 7000 series, Dell will also be refreshing its Inspiron 14 5000 convertible series with updated features and processors.
The new Inspiron 14 5000 model will come in two SKUs (5481 and 5482) with Core i3-8145U, i5-8265U, and i7-8565U CPU options. Graphics will include the UHD Graphics 620 or GeForce MX130 while the display resolution will be either 768p or 1080p depending on the SKU. However, since the model will be part of the lower-end Inspiron 5000 series and not the higher-end Inspiron 7000 series, users should expect thicker bezels, a cheaper plastic feel, and generally fewer features than the recently announced Inspiron 7000 convertibles. Nonetheless, Intel Optane will be an option and I/O ports are still quite similar to what the new Inspiron 7000 models offer.
To make the most out of the new design, Dell will be using the Inspiron 14 5000 chassis to launch a brand new Chromebook. The aptly named Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1 will look almost exactly like the Inspiron 14 5000 but with redesigned internals. The system will only come with the Core i3-8130U CPU and 1080p touchscreen while both storage and RAM will be soldered at 128 GB eMMC and 4 GB DDR4, respectively. A passive stylus is built-in unlike on the Inspiron 14 5481/5482.
The Inspiron 14 5000 2-in-1 and Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1 will launch on October 2nd and October 23rd, respectively, for the same starting price of $600 USD.
