IFA 2018 | The Dell Vostro 5000 series will be getting the narrow bezel treatment this November
Aside from all the consumer-oriented XPS and Alienware updates, Dell will also be updating its business-oriented Vostro series in time for the 2018 Holiday season. The 14-inch Vostro 14 5000 5481 and 15-inch Vostro 15 5000 5581 will have new chassis designs that incorporate narrow bezels to reduce weight and maximize portability.
Other new hardware changes include the addition of USB Type-C for charging, docking, and DisplayPort connectivity and a CPU update to the U-class Kaby Lake-R series for the 15-inch model. The GPU gets a boost as well from the now-ancient AMD Radeon 530 or GeForce 940MX w/ 4 GB of GDDR5 VRAM to the more modern GeForce MX130 w/ 2 GB of GDDR5 VRAM. PCIe NVMe SSDs, dual drives, and Intel Optane will all be coming as optional configurations.
As for software, the upcoming Vostro systems will ship with the new Dell Mobile Connect software that can allow users to wirelessly connect Android or iOS smartphones to the laptop and sync certain applications. Commonly used apps like SMS, contacts, WhatsApp, notifications, calendar, and more would automatically display on the Vostro notebook.
The Vostro 15 5000 5581 is coming this November for a starting price of $580 USD. The Vostro 14 5000 5481, however, will not be available until January of next year.
