Chuwi Hi10 Max convertible in review - An affordable alternative to the Surface Pro with Intel CPU
With the new Hi10 Max, Chuwi introduces an affordable convertible featuring an attachable keyboard and stylus. It is powered by a 12th generation Intel N100 processor, paired with 12 GB of RAM. The IPS display boasts a high resolution of 2,880 x 1,920 in a 3:2 aspect ratio, and the SSD offers 512 GB of storage. Priced at US$319 for the complete package (including the tablet, keyboard, and stylus), given its low price point, it's primarily compared to Android tablets.

Case & connectivity
The Hi10 Max is a tablet without a built-in kickstand. Chuwi uses a metal construction, and the dark gray casing feels high-quality, though slight creaking noises are noticeable when the device is twisted. The screen can also be visibly pressed in with a bit of force, but this doesn't negatively affect functionality. Normal touch inputs do not cause this issue. The package includes a back cover with a camera cut-out, the lower half of which attaches magnetically to the casing. The upper part can be folded down to function as a stand, which works well in practice and offers additional protection. The optional keyboard cover is attached to the underside, but the connection is not particularly stable and tends to come loose quickly.
Only 768 grams makes up the thickness of the tablet, which is 9 mm. With both covers attached, the total weight increases to 1,375 grams, making the overall package thicker than most modern laptops at just under 2 cm. The compact 36-watt power supply is lightweight at 135 grams.
In terms of features, the Hi10 Max covers the essentials, including Wi-Fi 6 (albeit 1x1), Bluetooth 5.2, and, of course, USB ports. Alongside the two USB-C ports, there is also a USB-A port, which proves very practical in everyday use. A micro HDMI output is included, though it requires an adapter. The tablet offers no options for maintenance or upgrades. For cameras, the front-facing 5 MP camera and an 8 MP rear sensor with autofocus both capture decent images.

Input devices - Touchscreen and backlit keyboard
The capacitive touchscreen offers smooth gliding and works without any issues. The included stylus (H7, with 1024 pressure levels and an AAAA battery) feels comfortable in hand, though it cannot be attached to the device. The keyboard of the optional cover is illuminated, but the key travel is short, and the keys are somewhat loud. Overall, the typing experience is decent and better than using an on-screen keyboard. However, only the English layout is available. There is a two-stage white backlight, which is a pleasant feature. The ClickPad is quite small, but it serves its purpose.
Display - IPS with 3K resolution
Chuwi uses a 12.96-inch IPS display from LG Philips in a 3:2 aspect ratio, featuring a high resolution of 2,880 x 1,920 pixels. The subjective visual impression of the 60 Hz panel is generally quite good, as content is displayed sharply with sufficiently vivid colors. However, there is some minor graininess on bright surfaces due to the touchscreen, and slight ghosting effects can be observed, as the response times are a bit slow. There are also visible halos on dark images, but PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) is not used. Reflections from the glossy panel can be a problem outdoors, but the viewing angle stability is acceptable.
In our measurements using professional CalMAN software, the display achieves an average brightness of over 400 cd/m² and a high maximum contrast ratio. Given the price range, this is quite impressive. However, the pre-installed color profile shows a noticeable blue cast, which we were able to eliminate with our calibration (profile is available for free download in the box on the right). We also managed to significantly reduce color deviations, although the 100% value still slightly exceeds the target of 3. With nearly full sRGB coverage, the display is even suitable for image editing.

Performance - Intel N100 & 12 GB RAM
The Chuwi Hi10 Max is powered by the Intel N100, a processor typically found in mini PCs. It is based on Intel's Alder Lake generation and features 4 efficiency cores without hyperthreading, with a clock speed of up to 3.4 GHz. It can consume up to 13 watts, making it one of the fastest N100 systems in our database. The performance remains stable even under prolonged load and while running on battery power.
With 12 GB of RAM, the Hi10 Max offers enough performance headroom for basic tasks. Thanks to the NVMe SSD, the system responds quickly to inputs and provides enough storage with its 512 GB capacity. The integrated UHD Graphics GPU handles high-resolution videos well, but the device is not suited for gaming. For gaming, stick to simple board or card games available on the Microsoft Store.
