Deal | Cheaper than ever: Tower defense game (91% positive) now just over $1 on Steam

In the year 2528, the so-called Replicators have infected entire planets with genetically modified monsters and threaten to wipe out humanity. In CARNAGE OFFERING Tower Defense, players take control of the two heroes Jake and Paul and support the Alliance in its fight against the machines and their creatures. The campaign takes players through a wide variety of locations – from medieval-looking towns and zombie-infested areas to underground facilities.

At the heart of the gameplay is classic tower defense: Players build, upgrade and, when necessary, repair defensive structures at designated locations to hold off increasingly powerful waves of enemies. There are 45 turret variants and more than 200 upgrades to choose from. The biggest twist, however, comes from the two playable heroes. Jake primarily relies on ranged combat and various firearms, while Paul charges directly into the fray with a telekinetic sword. Both can be controlled directly, adding considerably more action to the otherwise fairly static tower defense gameplay. Between missions, earned resources can be invested in permanent upgrades for towers, heroes and technologies.

CARNAGE OFFERING has been well received by the Steam community: 91% of more than 340 user reviews are positive. Players particularly praise the accessible tower defense mechanics, direct hero control, extensive upgrade system and dark sci-fi atmosphere. Criticism, on the other hand, focuses on missions becoming repetitive over time as well as balancing and pathfinding issues. Although the game was only released in September 2023, its graphics also look rather dated. At its current low price, however, genre fans may find it easy to overlook these shortcomings.

CARNAGE OFFERING is 89% off on Steam until September 1, bringing the price down from $9.75 to $1.09. According to SteamDB, the previous biggest discount was 88% in July. The current deal therefore marks a new all-time low, albeit only by a small margin. How well CARNAGE OFFERING runs on the Steam Deck remains unclear, however – its compatibility is currently listed as “Unknown.”
