Capcom’s unadvertised Switch 2 port of *Devil May Cry 5: Devil Hunter Edition* reportedly delivers up to 120 FPS in handheld mode, often sustaining 85–90 FPS in combat and outperforming the PS4 version’s unstable sub-60 FPS performance.

Capcom has seemingly mastered optimizing games for the Nintendo Switch 2, and that’s evident with the release of Devil May Cry 5: Devil Hunter Edition for the handheld on June 23, 2026. The game includes all bonus content from the Special Edition, including Vergil. Furthermore, Devil May Cry 5’s Switch 2 port beats the PS4 version in performance, delivering an unexpectedly high and steady 90 FPS at native 1080p resolution, compared to the PS4’s often sub-60 FPS performance.

In a hands-on analysis, YouTuber GVG, also known as Derek, compared the Nintendo Switch 2 and PS4 ports of Devil May Cry 5 side by side. He stated that the game feels much smoother on the handheld than on Sony’s eighth-generation console, indicating better frame pacing and frame times on the Switch 2.

He said, “The PS4 version generally runs well, but it doesn’t maintain a locked 60 FPS. Gameplay often fluctuates between 50 and 60 FPS, especially during boss fights.” He also mentioned that the frame rate on the PS4 version drops to the mid-30s and low 40s during cutscenes.

The Switch 2, on the other hand, maintained a steady 60 FPS throughout, with rare, minor dips of a few frames. However, things changed when he went into the settings, opened the display tab, and enabled 120 Hz output.

Derek said, “The game actually supports unlocked frame rates of up to 120 FPS, which Capcom never advertised. In many scenes, it runs around 90 FPS, and in less demanding areas, it can exceed 100 FPS.”

Although Capcom never mentioned this, the Switch 2 maintains a solid 85–90 FPS in combat and remains in the 90–120 FPS range throughout most of Devil May Cry 5’s playthrough, which is surprising and impressive in handheld mode with VRR enabled. Only during cutscenes does the frame rate drop to the mid-70s.

In addition, the Switch 2 port of Devil May Cry 5 looks identical to the PS4 version, with some textures and details appearing sharper and higher-resolution. However, the only downside is that the game is locked to 60 FPS in docked mode on the Nintendo Switch 2, with no VRR enabled.

Many fans speculate that Capcom didn’t advertise the high-frame-rate output in the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Devil May Cry 5 because of cutscene frame drops and the lack of VRR support in docked mode.
