Modern mini PCs are powerful enough to replace most desktops and laptops for the vast majority of everyday workloads including browsing, streaming, graphics editing, and even gaming to an extent. The Beelink GTI15 Ultra takes it a step further by integrating stereo speakers and 360-degree quad microphones onto the motherboard to negate the need for external speakers or mics. Coincidentally, the GTI15 Ultra has been optimized for voice activation controls via Alexa, ChatGPT, Co-Pilot, and more whereas most other mini PCs, like the recent GMK NucBox K12, have no integrated microphones or speakers at all.
Unfortunately, the speakers in the GTI15 are only average at best in both volume and audio quality. Maximum volume in our tests top out at just over 75 dB(A) whereas most laptops are able to reach 80 dB(A) or higher under similar testing conditions. Even the speakers on the 14-inch HP OmniBook 5 14 subnotebook are able to reach over 90 dB(A). The GTI15 speakers are loud enough for bedrooms or other small spaces, but you'll want external solutions for conference rooms or living rooms for sure.
As for audio quality, the pink noise drop off at 500 Hz is steeper than expected when the change should ideally be more gradual. Audio from the mini PC is sharp for conferences or calls, but the narrow range of the speakers fall flat for multimedia purposes.
For a potential future revision, we'd love to see upgraded speakers to at least match the volume and quality of most multimedia laptops especially considering that the mini PC retails for well over $1000.
