Atari GameStation Portable showcased as new retro gaming handheld with Atari Trak ball, paddle and keypad
MyArcade has presented a new Atari-branded gaming handheld. For reference, the company already sells the Atari Pocket Player Pro, an inexpensive device that contains over 100 officially licensed Atari 2600 games. By contrast, the Atari GameStation Portable should ship with twice as many games, although MyArcade has not published a full games list. Additionally, the new model will be significantly larger than MyArcade's previous effort, in part thanks to a 7-inch display.
Similarly, MyArcade has not confirmed display specifications, other than it will be a 'high-resolution' panel. Additionally, the Atari GameStation Portable is said to run a proprietary operating system built for playing Atari classic games rather than something like SteamOS or Windows. On top of that, MyArcade has included various Atari-specific controls, including a small paddle, a trak-ball and a keypad with 1-9 keys, # and *.
As the photo above shows, the Atari GameStation Portable also has a d-pad and ABXY buttons, plus buttons for Home, Menu Start, Select buttons like many other gaming handhelds. Moreover, MyArcade has included a two rear-mounted USB Type-C ports, a kickstand and LEDs that will illuminate which buttons are supported by a given game. While MyArcade has not shared full hardware details yet, it hopes to begin selling the Atari GameStation Portable in September or October 2024 for $149.
