Small Universe X Sugar Cubes: New gaming handheld with high-resolution OLED and fast SoC
A lot of details are still a little unclear, but information about a handheld called Small Universe X Sugar Cubes has surfaced. The device was first discovered by Retro Dodo, although it is currently unclear who the manufacturer is and what the handheld itself is called. But there is some information about the technical specifications, according to which the Small Universe X Sugar Cubes is relatively high-performing and comes with a strong and unusual display.
The model is equipped with a 3.9-inch screen with a resolution of 1240 x 1080, which is a very high resolution for a handheld that falls more into the retro category, and OLEDs are not so common in this market segment. The screen has an unusual and almost square aspect ratio, which should make it easier to emulate some (fewer) platforms. However, for many other consoles (both those with the 4:3 and 16:9 format) this results in limitations; as a rule, users have to live with black edges. The screen can apparently also be rotated and is therefore not connected to the actual handheld, but only at certain points.
An SoC from Qualcomm is installed, namely the Snapdragon 888, which is still very powerful, even if no longer cutting-edge. Users should be able to emulate a wide range of platforms at sufficiently high speeds. The housing of the handheld is said to be made of metal and it is expected to be offered in different color variants. In addition to shoulder buttons, there also two joysticks, action buttons and a control pad, which should allow users to play Playstation titles well.
At present, no information about a release date or the price is available.
