GKD Pixel: New and compact gaming handheld that offers PlayStation-like performance now available
We reported on the GKD Pixel late last year; the model is now available. The compact gaming handheld costs just under $90 - at least at one retailer. Shipping costs and additional import costs may also be incurred. The GKD Pixel also comes in various bundles, such as with a protective film. It is currently still a preorder, but delivery is scheduled to start in January.
The Ingenic X1830 is a relatively unknown processor. However, the 128 MB RAM makes it obvious that the GKD Pixel is not a system for current titles, but rather is intended to emulate older gaming platforms. According to a report, gaming platforms up to the PlayStation One can be emulated, including various Game Boy iterations, the SNES and the Mega Drive. Four action buttons, a directional pad and a total of four shoulder buttons are available for gameplay.
The handheld, which measures just 80 x 56 x 18 millimeters, is equipped with a 2.4-inch screen with a resolution of 320 x 240 - it is therefore questionable whether more complex games can be emulated on such a small screen. Other features include speakers, but thanks to the jack connection, audio can also be reproduced via headphones and likely in much higher quality. The 1300 mAh battery is specified as lasting up to four hours and is charged via a Type C USB port. Lastly, the metal-alloy housing promises high durability.
