Xiaomi is probably best known among consumers as a manufacturer of smartphones, but also offers a wide variety of products from different categories, including routers. Certain Xiaomi routers are already available, with the manufacturer also targeting price-conscious buyers.
Xiaomi has now introduced a new router that combines high performance with a particularly affordable price tag. The BE 3600 is the manufacturer's cheapest router with WiFi 7 capability to date. Xiaomi has not yet published all the exact specs, but the name already gives a strong indication of the maximum data transfer rate. In line with naming conventions, this is likely to be up to 3,600 MBit/s, which is not particularly high for a WiFi 7 router. The specified data transfer rate is always given as the average optimal rate, which can only be achieved under excellent and not so practical conditions.
According to Xiaomi, an SoC with four computing cores is installed - which chip exactly is used is still unclear. At least one Ethernet port with a maximum data transfer card of 2.5 Gbit/s is said to be installed - whether only the WAN port has an increased data transfer rate remains to be seen. The possibility of connecting to IoT devices is also advertised.
Currently, no exact price information is available, but it is expected to be the equivalent of around $40. It will be released on January 30 and initially only in China; Xiaomi has not yet commented on a possible international release.
