Until now, the Apple MacBook Pro 14 with its fast Pro and Max processors had no real competition in the Windows segment. There were some gaming laptops, such as the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 or the Razer Blade 14, but no dedicated multimedia laptops with fast graphics cards. That is now changing with the new Asus ProArt P14, which uses Nvidia's new RTX processors.
Apple has now launched the new MacBook Pro 14 OLED. Both devices start at €3,299 and offer a tandem OLED touchscreen and a 1 TB SSD at that price. However, Asus has the edge when it comes to memory: while Apple includes just 24 GB of RAM, the ProArt P14 offers 32 GB at this price. We have just reviewed both models, putting us in an ideal position to compare them.
Both premium laptops offer an elegant metal chassis in black or white/silver. Apple impresses with a better hinge and slightly lower weight, while Asus scores points with a replaceable SSD and a faster card reader. The ProArt P14 is the clear winner when it comes to input devices, as its keyboard offers more key travel and is significantly more comfortable to type on. However, the two are evenly matched in terms of their haptic touchpads, touchscreens, and excellent sound systems.
Both manufacturers use a tandem OLED touchscreen, but despite the ProArt P14's very good performance, Apple is clearly ahead in the display comparison. Its touchscreen does not affect perceived image quality, whereas bright content looks slightly grainy on the Asus. The MacBook also achieves higher brightness and supports the wider AdobeRGB color gamut.
While Nvidia's Spark N1X can hold its own in terms of performance, it falls well behind Apple's M5 Pro and M5 Max chips in raw CPU performance and efficiency. In terms of graphics performance, the Asus's Blackwell GPU sits right between the M5 Pro and the M5 Max. When it comes to gaming, however, the ProArt P14 has a clear advantage thanks to its much larger selection of games. In terms of AI performance, the N1X and Apple's M5 Pro perform at a comparable level.
