Asus has plenty of experience with dual-screen devices and the first models were equipped with a large main screen as well as a smaller secondary screen. The current Duo generation, however, uses two identical touchscreens like on the Zenbook Duo or the brand-new ROG Zephyrus Duo. Combined with the ScreenXpert software, this improves multitasking significantly, because the quality of the two screens is identical and there are no issues with scaling or color accuracy if you shift contents from one screen to the other. there are also multiple operating modes, so the Duo devices are very versatile.
The new design of the ROG Zephyrus Duo does not only offer advantages, though, because the cooling performance of the new 2025 model is significantly lower. The processor can only use up to 70 Watts instead of 130 Watts on the previous model, so the multi-core performance is much lower. The single-core performance on the other hand is a bit higher, but this is simply a result of the more advanced processor generation.
Asus also reduced the maximum consumption of the graphics card, because the mobile GeForce RTX 5090 only runs at up to 135 Watts in Turbo mode, while the GeForce RTX 4090 in the previous model ran at up to 175 Watts. As a result, the performance difference between the two models is very small in graphics benchmarks. The Blackwell GPU obviously has advantages in terms of features and VRAM (24 vs. 16 GB), but the performance is simply not as good as it could be.
This is a bit disappointing, especially considering the very high price of more than $5500 for the SKU with 32 GB RAM. On the other hand, the ROG Zephyrus Duo is definitely unique and probably the most niche product you can get. If you really need two screens and a powerful dGPU for your daily workflow, there is simply no alternative.
