Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 review: An unusual gaming laptop with a good battery life
A Ryzen 9-6900HX APU and GeForce RTX 3080-Ti Laptop GPU bring all the current games smoothly to the contrast-rich 4k display (16:10, IPS, 100% DCI-P3, FreeSync). They are accompanied by 4 TB of storage (RAID 0), 64 GB of working memory, and a surprisingly good battery life.

With the Zephyrus Duo 16, Asus presents a laptop for gamers, streamers, and content creators whose most striking feature becomes apparent immediately: Placed above the keyboard is a second display with touchscreen functionality (Screenpad Plus), which serves as an additional input option. It behaves like any other plugged-in external display and can be turned on and off via separate key. The price of the additional display lies in the weight and dimensions of the Zephyrus turning out higher than for comparable laptops.

The combination of a Ryzen 9-6900HX APU, GeForce RTX 3080-Ti Laptop GPU, and 64 GB of working memory (DDR5-4800, dual-channel mode) offers sufficient computing performance for all the usual application areas like image and video processing, rendering, and of course also gaming. A lightning-fast RAID-0 array consisting of two PCIe 4 SSDs offering 2 TB each provides for the necessary storage space and ensures short load times.

One battery charge (90 Wh) will last for a WLAN runtime of almost 8 hours, which is a good value for a powerful 4k laptop. Another positive point is the ability of the battery to be charged via universal USB-C charger (45 Watt min.), since one of the two USB-C Gen 2 connections supports Power Delivery. This means that you don't necessary have to lug around the hefty 280-Watt power supply with you.

The 16-inch display (3840 x 2400 pixels) in the 16:10 format scores with a high brightness, good contrast, stabile viewing angles, and - thanks to a Pantone certification - an excellent color reproduction. In addition, the DCI-P3 color space is completely covered. The display also supports AMD's FreeSync technology, which dynamically adjusts the refresh rate of the display and the frame rate of the GPU to each other. This is supposed to create an image that is as smooth as possible, particularly during computer games.
