An Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE powered by the AMD Ryzen 9 5980HX Cezanne APU and Nvidia RTX 3080 Laptop GPU has been spotted on Geekbench. While we do see performance gains compared to an average Ryzen 9 5900HX, they are not very high and seem to be well within the margin of error.

We recently reported about an Asus Zephyrus Duo 15 SE listing on Newegg featuring the AMD Ryzen 9 5980HX Zen 3 Cezanne APU. Now, we are getting to see this laptop make its way to the Geekbench records. Though AMD did announce the flagship Ryzen 9 5980HX alongside other Cezanne and Lucienne parts back during CES 2021, the Zephyrus Duo 15 SE could very well be the first laptop to feature this APU.

The current Geekbench entry for the Asus Zephyrus Duo 15 SE indicates an AMD Ryzen 9 5980HX APU, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU, and 32 GB RAM. The previous listing on Newegg featured an RTX 3060 Laptop GPU and 16 GB RAM, so this means we will see several Ryzen 9 5980HX-based configurations for this laptop.

From the entry, we see that the Ryzen 9 5980HX scores 1,523 points in single-core and 8,469 points in multi-core. Taking the average scores of a Ryzen 9 5900HX as 1,488 and 7,963 points, the Ryzen 9 5980HX seems to be about 2.35% and 6.3% faster in single and multi-core performance, respectively. Geekbench indicates that the processor is being run in a "Turbo" power plan. Also, it helps noting that we have observed scores of 1,467 and 9,086 in our own review of the Ryzen 9 5900HX-based Zephyrus 15 Duo SE

Of course, this is just a single run, and in this particular model we see Geekbench recording only 4.6 GHz similar to the Ryzen 9 5900HX, which means the extra 200 MHz boost as specified by AMD for the Ryzen 9 5980HX would require some added chassis and cooling optimizations. We also see that the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE scored 137,054 points in the Geekbench 5 OpenCL GPU benchmark.

Nevertheless, the gains seem to be within the margin of error for now, so prospective buyers will do fine with either version of the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE.
