Users will have to deal with noticeably higher core temperatures of about 15 degrees C if they want the much lighter Maingear model over the Razer model.

The Razer Blade Pro is perhaps one of the most recognizable ultra-thin 17.3-inch gaming laptops in the market. It's also very heavy for the size at 3 kg due to its sturdy magnesium alloy chassis and dense vapor chamber cooler. Fortunately, there are a handful of other 17.3-inch gaming laptops weighing significantly less but with the same CPU and GPU options like our recently reviewed Maingear Vector Pro based on a white label Tongfang chassis.

The Maingear weighs just 2.3 kg to be around 700 g (1.5 pounds) lighter than the aforementioned Razer but with similar Intel Core-H Series CPUs and the GeForce RTX 3080 GPU. It's able to achieve this by using less metal for its chassis and opting for a traditional cooling solution instead of a vapor chamber. 3DMark scores show the Vector Pro ever-so-slightly edging out the Blade Pro despite their similar dimensions and dissimilar weights.

The main disadvantages of the lighter Maingear are its higher core temperatures when gaming since its cooling solution is not as powerful as the one in the Razer. CPU and GPU temperatures would stabilize at 80 C each when running Witcher 3 compared to just 65 C each on the Razer as shown by the screenshots below. Thus, users would be sacrificing chassis rigidity and cooler core temperatures if they prefer the lighter and more travel-friendly Maingear model.
