Asus ROG Kithara gaming headset launches with 100mm planar drivers

The ROG Kithara is a new gaming headset that is already available for $299 on Amazon. It’s equipped with 100mm drivers, specifically Hifiman planar-magnetic drivers that are intended to deliver particularly high audio quality. According to Asus, the headset covers a frequency range of 8Hz to 55kHz. Asus further highlights a clear separation of bass, mids, and treble, which is intended to improve spatial perception. This is an open-back headset, so ANC would not be practical, as ambient noise is more likely to be heard.
Like most gaming headsets, the Kithara also sports a microphone. The boom mic uses MEMS technology and is said to capture frequencies from 20Hz to 20,000Hz. It uses a dual 3.5mm connection, which provides broad compatibility with many devices. Specifically, it includes a balanced 4.4mm plug as well as 3.5mm and 6.3mm single-ended plugs, and a USB Type-C adapter is included as well.
There are some customization options, including replaceable earpad cushions. The headband is adjustable, and the metal frame and metal hinges are supposed to improve the headset’s durability. Asus specifies a signal-to-noise ratio of 74dB, which describes the separation between the noise floor and the audio signal. The headset weighs just under 15 oz, cannot be folded and ships without a carrying case but with additional earpads.
