Cat-themed Roguelite launches on Steam with over 3,500 overwhelmingly positive reviews and 10% discount

Mewgenics, a cat-themed turn-based Roguelite, has gotten off to an explosive start since its launch on February 10. It has ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ reviews with over 3,500 players satisfied with the game. Steamdb’s charts showed a peak player count of over 65,000, which rivals numbers posted by some AAA releases. Currently, the game is discounted by 10%, and the promotion will run till February 24.
While the Steam Deck isn't officially supported yet, Mewgenics isn't particulaly demanding and should run on just about any PC/handheld built in the past ten years. It demands 8 GB of RAM, 6 GB storage and any four-core processor launched after 2014.
Developed by Edmund McMillen of the Super Meat Boy/The Binding of Isaac/The End is Nigh fame and Tyler Glaiel, Mewgenics involves breeding cats and battling them against other creatures. The game is turn-based, with each cat having a unique repertoire of active and passive skills. Two cats can give birth to an offspring, which may inherit some features from its parents.
The art style and music are borderline unsettling, but anyone familiar with Edmund’s previous works will recognise it instantly. Some people might not find it to their liking due to its crass nature, with even some long-time The Binding of Isaac fans voicing their disapproval in the reviews. Mewgenics can loosely be described as Final Fantasy Tactics merged with quirky game mechanics, such as leaving feaces scattered around the battlefield.
