Apple’s AI struggles reason for delayed Apple TV, HomePod mini launch

In case you’re waiting for a new Apple TV to drop, or perhaps a HomePod mini, you might be happy to find out that, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, new iterations of the Apple TV and HomePod mini have been "ready" for release since last year. In other words, they are coming soon (allegedly).
Apple has reportedly held back the hardware to align with the debut of the more personalized Siri and more delayed Apple Intelligence features. While retail inventory for current models is reportedly running low, the launch remains tied to the new (AI-powered) software.
Apple’s AI struggles
The delayed Apple TV and HomePod mini seem to confirm Apple’s slower-than-anticipated progress in the AI department, disrupting Cupertino’s traditional release schedule.
It’s not unreasonable to think it would have been logical for these devices to launch alongside the iPhone 17e, new MacBooks, and iPads during the March release spree. The fact that they remain shelved highlights the severity of Apple's software hurdles, as the company seems unwilling to ship "smart" home hardware without its next-generation intelligence suite.
The new Apple TV and HomePod mini
The upcoming Apple TV is rumored to feature the A17 Pro chip with 8GB of RAM, the minimum requirement for Apple Intelligence, alongside the N1 chip for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support. On the other hand, the HomePod mini is expected to get the S9 chip (or newer) and a red color option.
With the first developer beta of iOS 26.5 expected in late March or early April, a release window between now and September remains the likely target for the hardware, provided the Siri upgrades are finally deemed ready for public use.
