Competitive thanks to Kaby Lake. The updated Apple MacBook Pro 15 gets a modern Kaby Lake processor from Intel and a more powerful GPU by default. Otherwise, however, not a lot has changed. Update: The review is now complete
MacBook Pro 15-inch (2017) review
Source: Macworld.co.uk English
The 15-inch MacBook Pro would still benefit from a few other pro features, a 4K display for one, 32GB RAM being another. Yet at the already high price point, Apple may well be saving us from staring down a £3,000+ buying decision.

We said earlier it was all about the numbers, but the thing is, you can rarely judge Apple computers solely by numbers. The MacBook Pro may not give you the most bang for your buck, but it'll give you the most style and flair. It's not for you if your work centers on word processing and spreadsheets, nor on advanced workstation apps, but content creation pros will find it an ineffably satisfying partner—an Omega in a world of Timexes.

It's excellent news that Apple has moved to the seventh generation Intel Kaby Lake processors, we are also pleased to see new graphics cards. Performance is outstanding. The 15-inch MacBook Pro would still benefit from a few other pro features, a 4K display for one, 32GB RAM being another. Yet at the already high price point, Apple may well be saving us from staring down a £3,000+ buying decision. For now, this is the best MacBook Pro but it comes at a cost that alienates new users and with ports that will frustrate pro users.

The 2017 15-inch MacBook Pro is still expensive, but it's undoubtedly better value for money than last year's Model: our £2,699 (inc. VAT) review unit delivered professional-level performance that would have cost more than £3,300 just a few months ago.

If you're not an Apple adherent, the 2017 Dell XPS 15 Touch is pretty slick in its own right, and is simply faster and more fully featured, only lacking in battery life comparatively. It costs significantly less as tested, and on top of that, delivers a superior graphics card, display, and port selection, and thus remains our Editors' Choice for high-end desktop-replacement laptops.

Apple MacBook Pro 15 review – Apple’s most controversial laptop is still coming on top
Source: Laptop Media English
With a price tag like this and since this is an Apple notebook, our expectations are high and we are happy to say that in most aspects, the new MacBook Pro 15 delivers. There are some things that need to be considered but there are no fundamental flaws in the design, build, hardware, etc. It’s almost perfectly crafted device with few drawbacks – the design is simplistic, clean and the chassis’ build quality is impeccable. The same goes for the input devices, although some users won’t be happy with the keyboard’s shallow keys. In our opinion, it just takes some time adjusting and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them. Speaking of input devices, we can’t miss mentioning the iconic feature – the Touch Bar. We definitely see why Apple went after the Touch Bar instead of a full-fledged touchscreen but the lack of third-party apps support (for now) makes it borderline gimmicky. Still, if most of the time you use Apple’s built-in apps, you will definitely find it useful and comfortable to use.

90% MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (15-inch) Review Editor's Choice
Source: Laptop Mag English
The latest MacBook Pro delivers a slight performance bump with its Kaby Lake CPUs, but it's not a drastic enough change to warrant an upgrade from anyone who owns last year's model. There are lots of outstanding Windows alternatives out there -- the Dell XPS 15 packs a 4K touch screen for hundreds of dollars less, while Microsoft's Surface Book ($1,499 starting) offers a detachable display that's great for drawing and note-taking. Still, for creative professionals and power users that prefer macOS, Apple's most powerful MacBook Pro is hard to top.

It's excellent news that Apple has moved to the seventh generation Intel Kaby Lake processors. Of course the eighth generation chips probably won’t be that far away but if we always waited for the next big thing we’d never get anything new to play with.

Model: It is a little unusual for Apple to refresh the MacBook Pro 15 inch in less than a year. However, with Apple’s competitor quick on the trigger they have announced another refresh with the new Intel Kaby Lake architecture and even a slightly more powerful GPU as the default spec. Beginning with its main refresh highlights the new MacBook Pro 15 default spec sports an Intel Core i7-7700HQ, 16 GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD and AMD’s Radeon Pro 555. As this is a refresh there are certain aspects that are similar to its predecessor which will be omitted. In terms of user inputs, the MacBook Pro 15 uses Apple’s second-generation Butterfly keys which is similar to its 13-inch brethren, while the keyboard remains comfortable to type on there seems to be a minor keystroke problem whereby the “S” key would not register the stroke or either register it twice. Although the issue should have been rectified by now. Moving along to the display the 2017 model still carries the same panel as its predecessor which for a reminder sake is a 2880 x 1800 pixel IPS panel and does manage a high luminance rating at 523 nits. Along with brightness sRGB ratings are in the 99% range which is good considering that most users buying the Pro variant are most likely media creators or artists which require color accuracy although an even higher score would be appreciated.

While storage isn’t usually mentioned about with regards to Apple products the MacBook Pro 15 2017 unfortunately offers 256 GB as default which could be a little bit difficult to swallow considering the prices of 512GB variants dropping in price as of late. Keeping that in mind while Apple does charge hefty premium to upgrade it would be recommended to at least choose the 512GB model since it would help in future proofing your device. In the audio department, the MacBook Pro 15 2017 sports 2 convincing stereo speakers which might be a result of driver improvements considering the 2016 model suffered with its highs being weak. Naturally as this is a MacBook, users should expect good runtimes. The Macbook Pro 15 2017 last 10 hours and 44 minutes while Wi-Fi surfing. However, during gaming with its GPU, the battery life will take an extremely disappointing nosedive at only 1 hour 27 minutes. Overall verdict for the MBP 17 2017 is about satisfactory since this is only a refresh and not an upgrade.

AMD Radeon Pro 555: Graphics card for the Apple MacBook Pro 15 Mid 2017 based on Polaris 21. The specifications are identical to the previous Radeon Pro 455. With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution. » Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
7700HQ: Quad-core notebook processor based on the Kaby Lake architecture. Besides four CPU cores (including Hyper Threading), the chips also integrates the HD Graphics 630 GPU and is manufactured in an improved 14 nm process.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
15.4":

15-16 inch is a standard display size for laptops and offers the biggest variety of products.

1.83 kg:

This weight is typical for very big tablets, subnotebooks, ultrabooks and convertibles with a 11-13 inch display-diagonal.

Apple: Apple Inc. is an American multinational corporation which designs and manufactures consumer electronics and software products. Apple software includes the Mac OS X operating system but nowadays Macbooks are also able to run Windows. Apple has at least sporadically been considered the most valuable company in the world since 2011 and has consistently ranked among the Top 10 companies in the world.

In the laptop sector, Apple's market share was 9.3% in 2014 and 10.3% in 2016. The latter corresponds to the 5th place. In the smartphone segment, Apple achieved 15.3% in the first quarter of 2016, which means a market share loss when compared to the 18.3% in same quarter of the previous year.
Nevertheless, Apple ranked second place behind Samsung in both years.

There are tons of reviews on Apple laptops, smartphones and tablets. The ratings are significantly above-average (as of 2016).

82.67%: This rating should be considered to be average. This is because the proportion of notebooks which have a higher rating is approximately equal to the proportion which have a lower rating.
