Reviews for the Aorus X7 Pro v5
Performance artist. The fifth edition of Aorus' X7 is one of the strongest and yet slimmest gaming laptops on the market. Find out in our test report whether the manufacturer has this combination well under control or whether the cooling system is pushed to its limits.

With its super fast performance, excellent speakers and great keyboard, the Aorus X7 Pro v5 really does represent the very best in gaming laptops. Of course, there’s no getting away from the X7 Pro v5’s extortionately high price of £2,100, but when you put it side by side with the equally expensive Asus ROG G752VY, it’s immediately clear which laptop is better value for money.

With an above average screen, great performance and an excellent chassis, the X7 Pro V5 is a superb 17in laptop. It's not worth an upgrade over the older model, but for a desktop replacement and general gaming/multi-purpose machine it ticks all the boxes. Performance was a tad slow in some of our stock speed results, which can only put down to the way the CPU turbo is handled as temperatures were kept fairly cool at stock speeds.

Model: The super thin and lightweight Aorus X7 Pro V5 is considered the world's most powerful 17.3 inch laptop made for multi-purpose use and gaming. It is designed with an elegant frame and with an excellent aluminium chassis of less than 2.29 cm (0.9 inch). It is 58% slimmer and 26% lighter than similar laptops from other brands. It comes with Windows 10 or Windows 10 Pro Edition, a 6th generation 2.7 GHz to 3.6 GHz Intel Core i7-6820HK processor, dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M graphic cards, and two 256 GB Solid State Drives. Its 17.3" Full HD IPS screen is punchy, sharp and vibrant with good viewing angles and appropriate brightness, which makes outdoor use possible.
It has 8 GB or 16 GB of DDR4 RAM and the keyboard is comfortable to use for long periods. The good thing about the keyboard is that it features a white backlight. The Aorus X7 Pro V5 does not have a DVD burner, but it comes with a SD card reader and the ports included are USB 3.1 Type-C, USB 3.0, a Mini-Display port, an HDMI 2.0 port, a VGA port and a LAN port along with a microphone jack, a headphone jack and a HD webcam. The laptop weights only 3.2 kg, which is very light for a 17.3 inch gaming laptop and its battery life is up to 3.7 hours as measured by PCMark 8 Conventional Battery Test.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M SLI: Two GeForce GTX 970M graphics cards in SLI combination.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
6820HK: Skylake-based quad-core processor for notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 530 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
17.30": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
3.264 kg:
A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.
