Reviews for the Aorus 16X 2024
A Core i9-14900HX and a GeForce RTX 4070 equip the Aorus 16X (2024) for video editing, gaming and rendering. Adding to this is a bright 16-inch display (16:10, 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, G-Sync), 32 GB RAM, two SSDs with 1 TB of storage each, as well as a Thunderbolt 4 port.

So, at the end of the day, the Aorus 16X is an excellent gaming laptop that manages to check almost all the right boxes. For most users, the priority is going to be performance, cooling, and display, and the 16X delivers on all fronts. The keyboard and GCC software do leave room for improvement, but neither of those is a major flaw. More importantly, considering the price tag and GIGABYTE’s excellent customer service, the Aorus 16X is a solid recommendation.

The Aorus 16X is one of the best performing gaming laptops I have tested and it gives excellent results in both GPU- and CPU-heavy workloads. Gaming frame rates are amongst the best available for an RTX 4070 and the laptop is especially well optimized for settings best suited to the hardware. On the flip side, the 16X has some key limitations for creator use or those who value USB-C charging.

My only other real complaint is the noise level, as the laptop does get loud, especially if using the AI Gaming profile – and don't get me started on the Turbo mode! In speaking with my colleague Leo Waldock, he suggested the Windforce Infinity cooling setup looks relatively basic considering the 14900HX CPU used, so high fan speeds may be used to overcome that, resulting in high levels of noise – but the same can also be said for many other portable machines. Overall, the Gigabyte Aorus 16X is a solid laptop that delivers a good user experience. Depending on the type of games you play, you may want to consider looking at an RTX 4080 laptop instead, but for many I have no doubt that this machine will have strong appeal. We don't yet have a buy link for this model, but Gigabyte tells us it will be in stock at Curry's in a couple of weeks, priced at £1899.99.

16.00":
15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
