Aorus 16X (2024): Bright display, long runtimes, RTX 4070
Gigabyte's Aorus 16X ASG is a laptop for gamers and creators. Raptor Lake and Ada Lovelace deliver the required power in the shape of the Core i9-14900HX and the GeForce RTX 4070. The present device can currently be had for around US$2,000. Cheaper models feature a GeForce RTX 4060 (16X AKG) and/or a Core i7-14650HX.
Core i9 and RTX 4070 ready the device for rendering, streaming, video editing and—of course—gaming. The CPU has access to 32 GB RAM (DDR5-5600, dual-channel mode). It is possible to expand this. Two PCIe-4 SSDs deliver the necessary storage (2x 1 TB) and ensure that loading times are kept short—they do not form a RAID array.
The hardware brings all current games smoothly onto its matte screen. At the same time, you can usually make use of the full display resolution (2,560 x 1,600 pixels) and high to maximum settings. Higher resolutions could be possible upon connecting a corresponding display—the 16X features three video outputs (1x HDMI, 2x DP). The installed 16-inch display (WQXGA, IPS, 165 Hz, G-Sync, Dolby Vision) with a 16:10 aspect ratio left an overall good impression on us.
One battery charge (99.2 Wh) gives you a WiFi runtime of around 8 hours—a very good value. The battery can be charged via a universal USB-C power supply—one of the two USB-C ports (1x Thunderbolt 4, 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2) supports Power Delivery. This means you don't necessarily have to carry the bulky 230-watt power supply with you all the time.
