The TUF Gaming A16 of the 2024 model year is still a good option for those buyers who do not have an unlimited budget for a gaming laptop, but have saved enough to refuse very basic options. Such a laptop will provide a high-quality display, a rather “calm” appearance, a sufficient set of ports, and will be able to recognize the owner using infrared sensors, etc. Most importantly, its performance is easily enough for comfortable gaming sessions without overheating and other major and minor troubles. On the wish list, I would still like more powerful speakers. As for the critical stuff, you should immediately look for a more expensive configuration, since you can't add RAM to the laptop. Otherwise, ASUS has done a very good job.

The ASUS TUF Gaming A16 FA608 is a good gaming machine. It has a solid chassis and very good input devices. The audio quality is also up to the standards. The hefty cooling is doing a great job when using the laptop for work or gaming. The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 maintains a 4.45 GHz / 3.30 GHz P and E core clock which is a respectable result. The 140W GeForce RTX 4070 nears 2.60 GHz core frequency during gaming. All that leads to snappy performance and high FPS in games even when the visual quality is greatly increased. The optional 1600p display (NE160QDM-NYJ (BOE0C80)) impresses with 99% sRGB coverage and a high max brightness of 402 nits.

The Asus TUF Gaming A16 and A14 are my biggest surprises on the gaming laptop front. As someone who's used TUF laptops for years, seeing a far more aesthetically pleasing redesign is a real treat. And the A14 version, brand new to the series, is particularly impressive. Both have great specs, displays, keyboard and touchpads, and port selections as well, making them well-rounded gaming machines.

The ASUS TUF A14 and TUF A16 are solid refreshes of the brand’s A-series of gaming laptops, though I’m not entirely sure if the addition of AI will help the brand sell more of these units once they go on sale. No local pricing has been set for either laptop, but expect them to retail lower than the brand’s ROG offerings.

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
