Windows gaming handhelds seem to be picking up steam lately, with Lenovo, Valve, and Asus leading the charge with their AMD-powered portable gaming machines. Aokzoe, a smaller Chinese hardware manufacturer, seems to be taking the fight to the big brands, with its latest AMD Ryzen AI 9-powered gaming handheld.
Aokzoe officially announced the new gaming handheld on X earlier this week, also sharing some basic specifications in the post. The A1 X basically seems like an iteration of the previous A1 and A1 Pro gaming handhelds, featuring a similar form factor, updated processor, and an updated display.
Aokzoe A1 X | |
---|---|
CPU | AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 |
iGPU specifications | AMD Radeon 890M, 16 CUs/1,024 stream processors, 2,900 MHz clock speed, |
Display | 8-inch, 120 Hz, VRR support |
Battery capacity | 72.7 Wh |
Aokzoe has yet to share pricing for the A1 X, and that's often where the value proposition for these smaller hardware manufacturers falls apart. The current-generation Aokzoe Ai Pro with the AMD Ryzen 7840U retails for $909 on Amazon with 32 GB of RAM and a 2 TB SSD. With that in mind, it's likely that the A1 X will launch around the $1,000 price point, perhaps even slightly more.
While native landscape displays and variable refresh rate are becoming more common in newer gaming handhelds, they're features that still set the Aokzoe A1X apart from some other manufacturers and can lead to improved gaming performance and compatibility.
While Aokzoe says the A1 X is coming soon, it has yet to provide an actual launch date. Recently, Lenovo also previewed the updated Legion Go 2, which will also arrive soon and be powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme, which looks like it will feature a similar 16-CU iGPU and an 8-core Zen 5 CPU.
