Android 17 makes switching from iPhone to Android more seamless with a new migration tool that transfers everything from WhatsApp data and eSIMs to home screen layouts. Google's new Android version will expands Quick Share/AirDrop support, further bridging the gap between Android and iOS.

At the Android Show 2026, Google announced a major overhaul to the iOS-to-Android migration process.

Starting with Android 17, switching from an iPhone 17 Pro to phones like the upcoming Pixel 11 Pro or Galaxy S27 Ultra will be more seamless than ever before, promises Google.

The data transfer is expected to include:

  • Media & files: Photos, videos, and local documents.
  • Core data: Messages, WhatsApp data, call history, contacts, notes, calendar entries.
  • System & UI: Home screen layouts, wallpapers, alarms, and accessibility settings.
  • Connectivity & security: eSIMs, email accounts, and saved passwords.
  • Apps: Transfer/installation of free apps along with their existing user data.

The upgraded migration tool will debut first on Pixel and Samsung devices. It is expected to launch with One UI 9.0 on the Galaxy Z Flip8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 this July, followed by the Pixel 11 Pro this fall. Other Android OEMs will receive the update later in the year.

In related news, Google also confirmed that Quick Share is expanding its reach. Following a successful pilot on the Pixel 10, native-like file sharing with AirDrop is coming to a broader range of hardware. Throughout 2026, devices from Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and others will gain the ability to share files with iPhones and Macs.

Android 17 is expected to be fully unveiled at Google I/O 2026 on May 19, with a stable official launch anticipated as early as June or July 2026.
