AYA NEO 2 GEEK: Pricing, colour options and name change confirmed for RDNA 2-based gaming handheld
AYA NEO has confirmed updated pricing for the NEO 2 GEEK, a gaming handheld that it unveiled in June. Initially, the company claimed that the device would launch for CNY 4,099 (~US$592), which is no longer the case. Additionally, AYA NEO now refers to the NEO 2 GEEK as just the NEO GEEK, despite its inclusion as a second-generation device.
Based on several Weibo posts, AYA NEO has decided to separate the device into a dedicated product category, making it the first in the AYA NEO GEEK series. Fundamentally, the AYA NEO GEEK is an AYA NEO 2 product though, with the company boasting that it has the same large Hall-Effect joystick as the AYA NEO 2. Incidentally, the AYA NEO GEEK has Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, along with a fingerprint sensor and USB 4 connectivity.
Furthermore, the company still plans to offer the AYA NEO GEEK with 800p and 1200p displays, plus a choice of the Ryzen 5 6600U or the Ryzen 7 6800U with Radeon 660M and Radeon 680M iGPUs, respectively. While a release date remains unknown, AYA NEO states that the device will start at CNY 4,399 (~US$592) for early bird orders, with its retail price set at CNY 5,288 (~US$764). Presumably, this price applies to the black model, which has an 800p display.
By contrast, it seems that AYA NEO has restricted the 1200p display option to a Violet Transparent colourway; the price for which has not been confirmed yet. According to Cary Golomb, the AYA NEO GEEK will start at between US$725 and US$750 in the US, also likely early bird prices. Based on recent AYA NEO product launches, the AYA NEO GEEK will launch via a crowdfunding campaign, before moving to the company's website.
